CBCS gathers expertise, resources, facilities, and equipment to identify and develop novel chemical tools to help you interrogate your particular field of interest. By drawing from our combined experience in industry and academia, our talented group has provided input to more than 400 research projects during the past five years of operation, resulting in high-impact publications, innovations, patents, and spin-off endeavours.
With the local access nodes over Sweden and their specialized services, CBCS can offer a range of services complementing the biological and chemical support we have provided to the research community within the chemical biology field for more than a decade. Together we produce high-quality data and knowledge to fuel biological discovery and innovation.
Our highly experienced Assay Development team works with a broad range of bioassay formats. It has extensive knowledge in the intricate process of adapting novel bioassays from low-throughput to microtiter-based high-throughput formats. We are equipped with multiple (liquid handling) workstations and readout systems to accommodate a broad range of screening technologies and sizes. Our screens range from isolated biochemical targets to advanced primary cellular systems, phenotypic and high-content screens, plant biology, and whole-organism screening in infectious diseases and cancer. CBCS has a long track record in screening projects with pathogens at biosafety level 2 (BSL2). Small molecules play a central role in the study of pathogens, and we are now proud to present the assay development and screening service in a biosafety level 3 environment. At two of the nodes, in KI and Linköping, CBCS offers assay development support, compound screening services, and hit-to-lead guidance in BSL3. In Umeå, we offer BSL-2 level services. Our skilled team members have long experience in compound screening with pathogens. Our affiliated biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratories are equipped with instruments that allow medium- to high-throughput screening campaigns and liquid-handling solutions combined with various assay readouts and automated time-lapse microscopy. We look forward to supporting your projects on risk groups 2 and 3 pathogens.
Phenotypic profiling of cells by high-throughput, high-content microscopy allows for identifying morphological changes in the cells that are indicative, for instance, of the mode of action (MoA) of a drug, novel compound, or biological.
Our new CBCS Uppsala node has extensive experience in large-scale data handling and analysis. We have built a complete IT infrastructure capable of storing and analysing the large quantities of images and subsequent data generated from Cell Painting experiments. Read more…
Access to synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry is a central component of chemical biology and critical for further developing primary screening hits. Our chemistry teams consist of highly experienced, senior synthetic chemists with a background in academia and the pharmaceutical industry, providing each project with unique insight into the molecular basis of the studied system.
